Art Deco Oak Rolling Bar

Original Art Deco Oak Rolling Bar

Item #1809 SOLD

This art deco oak rolling bar is what I like most about this business. I have been specializing in Art Deco bars for maybe a million years now. I thing I've seen everything made, looking through the internet, books and spending about 25 years on the prowl. Well, here is one I know you haven't seen before. This is about as amazing as you could imagine. Compact, rolling wheels, multi-faceted, lots of drawers, compartments and yet a remarkably small footprint. I'm not talking about "geo" footprint either. Dress this bar up with bottles, shakers, glasses etc. etc. etc. The only thing else you will need is a friend or two to appreciate how clever you are! Tell them "not for sale" only to enjoy. The shape is quite original, newly refinished Oak wood (yes but it looks good), horseshoe shape with a faceted front, original handles and all the trimmings. I'll have mine extra extra dry!

1940's Art Deco Bar

1940's Art Deco Bar or Secretary Black lacquer lucite handles

Item #1816 SOLD

What a wonderful modern design for this 1940's Art Deco Bar or Secretary. Encompasses a wonderful Art Deco style, yet could work in Hollywood Regency or Biedermeier just as easily. I love the sort of radio style accent design on the right side of the door. There are two opens doors and two drawers (with clear lucite handles). The left side (or bar side) is beautifully fitted out in finished wood with chrome rails, drawers, doors and just everything to display some beautiful cocktail accouterment. The Right side is wide open to accommodate bottles and/or whatever you might want to fit along side. Two long wide drawers also help to make this a very useful piece. It could even work as a combination bar and secretary. Its all about having some serious FUN!

1930s American Art Deco Radio/Bar • RadioBar glasses complete 1930s American Art Deco Radio/Bar • RadioBar glasses complete

1930s American Art Deco Radio/Bar • RadioBar glasses complete

Item #1719 SOLD

Here we have a 1930s RCA RadioBar. A very rare item and this one is particularly special, complete with all the original glass. I've only seen one in the last 15 years complete with everything, including cocktail shaker and bitters bottle. The glassware is in near perfect condition, no cracks, scratches or loss of silver. Every piece fits perfectly into the racks so when the bar is closed, everything is contained within. 4 styles of glasses: Rocks Glass, High Ball, Low ball and Shot glass. Additionally, there are 6 liquor bottles all titled as well: Gin, Vermouth, Scotch, Brandy, Rye & Bourbon, the most popular alcohol of the period for sure.

It originally had a radio AND was a cocktail bar, But some sophisticated entertainer removed the original radio to make room for more bottles. They all had Philco style tube radios (not something used too much today, but still available if you wanted to fit this with one).

It's just the kind of thing that one would expect to find in the office of a 1930s Hollywood "businessman". In fact, you can see an example of a RadioBar in action in the film "Angels With Dirty Faces" (1938) with James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. The RadioBar makes its appearance early in the film (see pics below) as the focus of attention in the office. The iconography of those old-time Hollywood gangster films required that the gangster's office be decorated with impeccable modern props. As well, a RadioBar makes an appearance in the film "Gold Diggers of 1933". The RadioBar is seen when "gold digger" Carole (Joan Blondell) puts the moves on Jonathan Bradford (Warren Williams) in her art-deco styled flat.

The idea behind the RadioBar dates back to the days of Prohibition (which was repealed in 1933) – make a functional piece of furniture in which one’s liquor stock and glasses could be stored, out of sight. It was aimed at the more affluent of the Depression years and built as a fine piece of furniture. In addition, it presented a novel way to conceal the cocktail bar.

Wonderful Bar - Secretary with a unusual Lion Inlay

Wonderful Bar - Secretary with a unusual Lion Inlay

Item #1672 SOLD

Here is a classy and fun piece of furniture. Very multi-functional. Great marquetry on the front of Lion standing in a posture of greatness. The top folds down to make a wonderful writing surface or in my case, would be used as a bar, glass surface on the top. Nice practical drawers below. But best of all is this very cool vitrine of glass door display on the right side. Could be great for barware or collectibles. Modernist shelves below. This piece has it all. Nice grainy tiger flamed mahogany with black lacquer accents. A very useful piece of furniture.

Art Deco Bar with stools

Spectacular French Art Deco Bar Stand behind with stools

Item #1665 SOLD

Well I've been waiting to get this bar for about 3 years and finally, it is now in our inventory. I saw this years ago and clients, loved it but!!!!!!!!!!! They have now moved into a new place and we now have it in our place (waiting for the right new home). It is completely original and completely French-- Art Deco Bar. Its rare to find a bar this size that was not made for commercial use, this would work great in someone's home, family room, dining room or bar room. The position of the bar would have to be taken into account, seems like it would work great with one end against a wall and the other open to the room. Its the kind of bar that can fit in many different angles so take a good look. I don't know who is the original designer, but for sure it is one of those bars that was custom made, not a production piece. Comes with 4 matching stools also in original condition. Nice Macassar wood front and also matching wood on the bar stools. It has a great chrome foot rail with a nice wood ebony arm rail. Great hardware holding it all in the place. I could go on and on. The back is waiting for bottles and accouterment to make this the center piece of any room. The stools have original mohair fabric which in my opinion should be re-done. The condition is original, there are a few area that could be touched up on the bar, it all depends on you. In a nice dimly lit room, you might have quite a time getting your friends to leave, so make sure you mean it when you say, "belly up to the bar".

Unique Double Deck Art Deco Bar 1930's

Unique Double Deck Art Deco Bar 1930's

Item #1652 SOLD

Very unusual and useful double up bar. Great faceted wood design on edging, door and sculpted sturdy feet (solid baby). High quality circadian walnut wood with a dynamic grain "wood galore". Nice thing about this bar is the size. Not too too big, but big in style and show. Top opens, front has double doors with shelves for glasses and other display items. The lower portion is a huge pocket for bottles and other good things. You could even use it to store a small group of electronic equipment in the bottom and or top. Very useful piece of furniture and a lot going on. Original piece restored quite well.

Extremely rare stepped Double Door English Flip Top Bar

Extremely rare stepped Double Door English Flip Top Bar

Item #1610 SOLD

We finally completed the restoration on this very unusual English flip top envelope bar. In all my years and travels, I've never seen this particular model. I thought by now I'd seen everything? It works very much like a typical English flip top or yacht bar, (check the references on our web site Items 404, 435, 671), which we have had many over the years, but never this model. In addition to the flip top, belly up to the bar feature, this one has two very distinct stepped openings. Lets call the top opening for glasses and small items and then of course the typical lower opening for bottles. This model offers just about everything you could need, great storage, great serving piece and a great stand behind bar, all folding up into a very small package. Of course, you can also add a couple of bar stools as well.

One of my personal favorites. This is the ultimate. Compact bar yet practical and become the focus at your party. Great access from the front or the back and on wheels so you can move it away from the wall when needed and get behind the bar and make some cocktails for all your friends. We have had these many times over the years, but not for sometime. This one is newly restored with grain filled teak wood and new chrome handles and kick on the base. These bars were made between 1930-1950's and would look great in almost any house or apartment setting. You can even use it with a couple of simple bar stools.

Stylish French stepped rosewood bar with a stunning Lelu point of view

Stylish French stepped rosewood bar with a stunning Lelu point of view

Item #1547 SOLD

This wonderful piece, circa 1940's has so much going on. First, let me point out the spectacular rosewood construction on the base, sides and top. The base has this very unusual Regency meets Biedermeier meets Deco. The piece is crafted by stepping up and stepping down (deco style). Or as I might say "Steppin out"! The double front doors have a beautiful three dimensional faux finish and a stunning criss/cross inlay design. Inside is simple, nice moveable storage shelf and a modern light. Would also be great to store sound equipment for a home theater. In anyway, definitely of French origin and the legs speak of Lelu design, especially with the little brass covers. You decide!

Fabulous stand behind Art Deco Bar Modernist Geometric Design

Fabulous stand behind Art Deco Bar Modernist Geometric Design

Item #1530 SOLD

WOW, WOW, WOW, now who has a place for this very special (one of a kind) bar. Wish I did! Great painted front design in Chinese Red lacquer with silver leaf, gold leaf and stepped geometric designs. Very unusual style, purchased in the Southern US (Georgia, Georgia, Georgia)!

I am sure it was a custom design, maybe made for a department store display? In any case, we took a few liberties to bring it up to the level of Mr. Rick's barroom banter. Added some shelves, drawer, handle and a few pieces of black/white marble in the back to make it so stable you could dance on the top (might scuff the finish)! Lets yourselves go, relax, have fun! The stools (of which we have 4 listed under item #1415) are not included but look great with the style lines of this piece. One could really build and design a whole room around this sensational piece of furniture. Lots of dynamic shapes and lines, so let me be the first to invite you to belly up to the bar!

Very modernist, simple and stunning Bauhaus style bar. Please take a moment to see the details. This is an original piece with wonderful lines, It opens up from the most simple rectangular form. The top opens to reveal a small compartment for ice, glasses or bottle can be neatly organized in either the upper or lower cabinet. There are two chrome handles which allows you to pick it up and put in any area, but on one side the rubber bumpers allow you to open the lid for a perfect symmetrical opening, allowing the bar to expand to another serving service. Would be great addition to for a special after diner drinks bar, on a boat or in your special entertainment room. The top is in macassar wood, as is the door for the ice storage, the rest of the bar is in a solid mahogany all with a new French polish. Brilliant. Enjoy, Have Fun! Unique Ultra Art Deco Bar and Armoire with Spectacular wood

Unique Ultra Art Deco Bar and Armoire with Spectacular wood

Unique Ultra Art Deco Bar and Armoire with Spectacular wood

Item #1411 SOLD

This must have been a custom made piece for some wealthy benefactor. Look at the wood, both inside and out. I've never seen so much attention to detail. Great style. On the outside, straight grain panels which had the cabinet makers complete attention to detail. This bisecting - intersecting straight grain (mahogany) wood is placed with such detail it looks like some that Jean Michel Frank might have done. The piece was purchased in Argentina where it is said he had a workshop and produced pieces that have been found there. So now that you've got past the front doors, open her up and look at the stunning maple style cloud burst wood. Normally you never see this kind of attention to the inside of a piece of furniture, only to the outside. Drawers, glass rails made of wood and not of metal. Some adjustable shelving and this stunning piece of furniture sits on a plinth style base to help accentuate the shape of the wood and the front design. I think I've said enough, let the photos speak for themselves.

Historically significant Art Deco Bar with stylized Black Jazz Musicians

Item #1370 SOLD

I am so so so excited about this piece. I have been waiting to offer this for over 8 months. It just arrived all the way from South America. Originally built in the 1930's for a very wealthy industrialist living in Uruguay. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The bar has been restored but the painting of the musicians is completely untouched or molested to show it origins and age. The painting is on parchment, an integral part of the bar. It was originally lacquered (you can see the fine lacquer cracks in the painting. I would not change this at all. It shows age, but looks fantastic.

I wish I had a place in my home for it. I love Art Deco bars as you must know from visiting our web site. This is probably the most interesting one I've ever seen and maybe one of the more unusual pieces I have been able to purchase in many years. It takes you right back to the real "Jazz Age" the mystery of music, the social mentality at that time. It preserves a very wonderful painting. This is where Art + Music + Jazz + Race have all met at one particular time in history. It must go to the right person(s) home!

After I bought it, I thought I saw it on a commercial in Buenos Aires, it went so fast, well my eye is better then my Spanish:

Yes, this elegant Art Deco demilune tower bar which hails from 1930s England might just have seen just that scene. Made with subtly contrasting Maple and Walnut woods with the most intriguing scalloped doors and loads of other interesting details. What fun! This truly ingenious 1930s Art Deco Tower Bar exemplifies Modernist Design meets Cocktail Euphoria. It was beautifully crafted during the 1930s in Argentina of gorgeous Quilted Maple hardwoods. The interior features three cork-lined shelves against a beautiful cream-colored background. The top features a nice contrasting geometric wood tone inlay and a low-profile back-splash. Additionally, the protective and nicely beveled glass top doubles as an elegant glass handled serving tray. This wonderful piece can be wheeled about a room or the wheels may be removed in order to make the piece more stationary. This clever cart would certainly be a handy addition to any room (particularly the dining room) and could be used as a dessert cart, bar cart, tea cart or even just a little extra space while entertaining.

1930s Walnut Art Deco Bar-Cart • Cocktail Inlay

Item #1172 SOLD

Think of it as a convertible for cocktails! I think this 1930s burled Walnut Art Deco Bar-Cart should have been in a "Thin Man" movie. I can easily imagine Nick Charles opening up this four-wheeled-libation-station upon coming home after a grueling day of sleuthing. In fact, it would probably have been next to his bed - in place of a nightstand. Or maybe not. In any event, this very Deco steel-wheeled bar-cart is made of beautifully burled Walnut and features clever accessibility to the main compartment and a locking side cabinet for liquor bottles. Being wheeled, it can be moved easily around the room. Additionally there is an intricate, multi-pieced wooden "Cocktail" inlay on the front door to help you remember why the alarm was set for 5PM.

1930s American Art Deco Radio/Bar • RadioBar

Item #1105 SOLD

Here we have a 1930s RCA RadioBar. It is a radio AND a cocktail bar. It's just the kind of thing that one would expect to find in the office of a sophisticated 1930s Hollywood "businessman".

Details:

Walnut Finish Cabinet • Lighted Radio Dial • Working Tube Radio • Removable Aluminum Ice Container • Interior Light • All fittings, bottle holders and glass racks are of heavy chromium plate.

The Measurements:
Size when closed: 43½" high, 27" wide, 13" deep • Size when opened: 54" high, 45" wide.
