Very Rare Charles Catteau Art Deco Pelican Vase

An extremely rare Boch Belgian cloisonné animal piece. It is very special these days to even have the opportunity buy something as unusual as this perfect Catteau vase. This is certainly a collectors piece! As you might know, the "animal" decorative vases completed during the tenure of Charles Catteau are the most sought after of all the Boch pieces that were produced between 1920 and 1945. . The substantial piece stands 14.5 tall, a classic Boch shape, about 26" in diameter. This is a stunning design, showing the classic Pelican in many different positions. I have personally photographed Pelicans many times (I live across from a bird sanctuary and these caricatures are spot on). I have only seen this piece once before, in a book. There have been some catalogues and books done specifically on these collections showing animals portrayed in many studied classic positions. Hopefully this will find its way into the right home or collection. It bears the circular stamp "Boch Freres La Louviere".

Offered is a stunning matching pair of Boch Freres floral vases signed "CT" Catteau. This is a classic design using enamel colors of turquoise, blue, black and yellow dramatically placed to create a 3 dimensional flower. These pairs are much more difficult to find, but would make a wonderful presentation on your buffet, dining table or formal entry. They can be used with floral arrangements as well. The technique is called ceramic Cloisonné using in a floral treatment.

Boch Frères Keramis Tulip Motif Vase

The scalloped leaf & tulip motif and the subtle "air-brush-like" shading evoke strong Hollywood Art Deco glamour in this gorgeous 1930s Boch vase. The floral motif is complimented by a matte finish in subdued yellow ochre and brown. This large mouthed vase has an unusual gently stepped base which is further enhanced by a trio of dark brown bands. It is marked with the "Boch Frères KERAMIS, Made in Belgium" stamp. It is signed with the motif designation "D.2524" and impressed with the shape designation "1062".

Here's a beautiful and substantial Boch Frères geometric Art Deco ceramic vase that was made in Belgium during the 1920s. It has a gently flared rim with a geometric design of four overlapping triangular shapes rising from the base in black and three shades of gray. It is designed with diminishing trapezoids and circles in black, yellow, and orange on an ivory colored crackled background. It bears the circular stamp "Boch F La Louvrière".

Here is a very unusual pair of Boch vases in a classic modernist shape with birds. The colors are quite striking and this is not a model I have seen before. It is always unusual to find a matching pair, especially as rare as these. The colors are gray, blue, white and black. The stepped up design is quite nice and the pair, which are in perfect condition without restoration stand 10" T X 7" W X 7" D. The 8 sided shape lends itself quite nice to the image of the birds flying through the clouds. The piece has a mold mark on the bottom "1021" but there is no signature. These may have been some experimental design that was never made as a production piece, which makes these curiosity's quite rare.

Museum Quality Chevallier Vase

Here is a museum quality example of a shape and piece I have not seen. This may be one of a kind. The design is documented in books on Boch animals and on its designer Chevallier who worked for Boch during and after Catteau. This is a marvelous pieces 17.5 inches tall and 12" wide, it has lots of gold metallic enamel and a custom designed top and lower band.

Absolutely one of the finest examples of Boch Freres pottery I have ever seen. Here is a museum piece one which should go to any great collection or just to appreciate the beauty. The size is enormous 20.5" and the colors are spectacular. This piece is featured in the Catteau book "l'Homme de Keramis"on page 34. Another very interesting point about this piece. This design has been done in many different shapes, usually they just reuse the same design over and over on different shapes. For this particular large piece, they made a the design specially to fit the size of the shape. Fantastic!

This example of the most famous Catteau design, the gazelle is extremely rare. In all of my years, I've never seen this color before. It is possible that this was a studio piece that never became a production model. Although, the style is exactly like the more turquoise traditional gazelle pieces, this one is a coloration quite different. Even the material feels a bit heavier than the traditional material Size is 10" T X 6" W.
