Art Deco Collection Custom Carpets • The Martini Club RugItem # ADC-010 There is an interesting story to this delightful heirloom-quality carpet. Amazingly, this treasure-of-a-rug almost slipped through our fingers. We found (by sheer luck) a small patch of the original carpet, (it measured only only 24" X 32") and were immediately struck by the design, the complex details and of course, the fun of it all! So we developed an incredible carpet in an exact likeness of the original. At the same time we created another rug using the same pattern details but with a different color combination (please see detail page). The Martini Club Rug is a great conversation piece and would be absolutely perfect in a bar or game room. It has been handmade by our master rugmakers using only the purest dyes and finest wools. This, as well as many of our other carpets, may be created in other sizes and color combinations. Due to the intricacy of the rugmaking process and our high standards of craftsmanship, our rugs require approximately three months to complete. Prices range from approximately $7,000 to $12,000 depending upon the size and complexity of design. The Measurements: |

Art Deco Collection Custom Carpet Item # ADC-008 This fabulous carpet designed by Paule Leleu circa approx. 1937, maybe just in time for the Paris Exposition. The very strong and artistic design shows the influence of using a black background to help exaggerate the labyrinth interior design. Since this is a rather symmetrical design, it could be created in a range of rectangular sizes. Bio Leleu, Paule French 1906-1987 The daughter of famed Jules Leleu, in the 1930's she took over the rug department from Da Silva Bruhns and assisted Anne Grattepain. Paule Leleu's rugs feature symmetrical caisson arrangements and repeating geometric patterns with diamond or linear motifs. From 1940, she designed many circular compositions, with geometric and floral diaper patterns sculpted in relief. |

Art Deco Collection Custom Carpet Item # ADC-007 One of the more famous designs, although attributed to Henry Stephany, called 'Circles and Waves', it was first shown on the stand of the Studio Ruhlmannn at the 1928 Salon des Artistes-Decorateurs. This has been a very popular design for us. The symmetrical style allows for adjusting the pattern to be used for just about any size. We have me this up as large as 16 feet long. Bio on Ruhlmann, Emile-Jacques Paris 1879-1933 French designer, painter and building contractor. Ruhlmann exhibited wallpaper and furniture at the Paris salons from 1910. Post-was, a partnership with Pierre Laurent left him free to devote most of his time to the decorating department of his Paris firm, which employed up to twenty young designers at a time. Ruhlmann also consulted freelance designers including Ivan Da Silva Bruhns (a very important rug designer). Studio Ruhlmann retailed a wide range of floral medallion and geometric designs. |

Art Deco Collection Custom Carpet Item #ADC-006 The very original design by Gustave Miklos is unique to itself. So modern looking yet designed for the 1925 Paris Exposition. The shape which is both symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time. Creating a kind of cubist effect. The sizes we have shown, tend to be in a smaller scale: 3 X 5.5 or 4 X 7 sizes. Bio on Gustave Miklos Budapest 1888-Oyonnax 1967 Sculptor and designer, trained at the Decorative Ats School in Budapest, naturalized French. In 1909 Miklos settled in Paris, where he me up with Josephy Csaky and frequented the Cubists. Miklos designed jewelry enamels, silver and carpets. A member of U.A.M., Miklos showed his work in the society's pavilion at the 1937 Paris Exhibition. From 1940 he taught and divided his time between sculpture and interior design. |

Art Deco Collection Custom Carpet Item # ADC-005 Another very unique design by Gustave Miklos, "collage" rug in this example the rug has some unusual alterations, without being symmetrical, what I would call an irregular format. It has that very "modernist' point of view and yet was designed for the drawing room of Jacques Doucet's home circa 1925. These examples represent the forward thinking of the Art Deco movement. These rugs tend to be used in smaller areas, not as large rugs, both to be shown as almost floor art. Certainly able to make a serious design attitude. This is a rug you would not want to cover up. |
