French original Art Deco ATO wooden clock with battery

French original Art Deco ATO wooden clock with battery

Item #1589

This is a wonderful wooden mantle or desk clock with great marquetry. These early ATO clocks were very stylized and quite innovative. These are all original battery operated clocks. I have had many over the years, these are NOT digital quartz clock, but original vintage movements. This one has been slightly adapted (and improved I must say), to accommodate the battery in a separate holder that clips on to the original movement mechanism. I have tested it now for months and it works great. I like it. I also like the beautiful wood treatment on this piece, where most of the other ATO clocks I've had, tend to be more streamline and glass.

1930's Herman Miller Modernist Clock Gilbert Rohde

Item #1574

Here is an extremely rare 1930's Herman Miller Modernist table/alarm clock designed by Gilbert Rohde. It is has been fully restored/rewired to perfect working condition. This is a stunning example one of the most forward-thinking Modernist design of the 1930s. The style and extreme modern design reflects Rohde's genius. Nice wood case with chrome accent base and polished chrome bezel. There is a brass second hand, red straight minute hand and a red hour hand in the trademark teardrop shaped design. New cloth wire. A stunning piece.

About Gilbert Rohde
(b New York, 1894; d New York, 16 June 1944). American industrial designer. He learned cabinetmaking in his father's shop in the Bronx, New York, and then worked as an illustrator of furniture for several New York retail shops. In 1927 he made a trip to Paris and there saw examples of the modernism known subsequently as Art Deco. On his return to America he undertook freelance interior design projects and made custom-built modern furniture for private clients In 1929 he opened a design office in New York, concentrating on interior design and developing furniture in the early modernist style. In 1930 he established a relationship with Herman Miller Inc. of Zeeland, MI, a firm that had previously made products imitating various traditional styles. Rohde convinced the firm of the superiority of the ideas of modernism at a time when this direction was virtually unknown in the USA; he developed an extensive line of furnishings that combined functional ideas and simplicity of form with decorative details that were characteristically 'modernistic'.

About Herman Miller
Herman Miller began in 1923 as a manufacturer of traditional residential furniture, became a leader in "modern" furniture in the 1930s and 1940s; developed lasting ties through the 1950s with legendary industrial designers like Gilbert Rohde who led us in new directions

French Art Deco Moderne ATO battery clock

Item #1503

These are always my favorite Art Deco clocks. This company had continually invented some of the most beautiful and modern period pieces made by any company during the art deco period. Very creative, very innovative and something that is still amazing and modern for today. An original battery operated movement, using a pendulum system that is charged by the batter, original instructions and working fine (I've got one of these at home and it just keeps on ticking)! This is an especially rare model because of the very detailed deeply acid etched and carved glass. The front is pure Moderne with only a hint of metalwork or case, it appears to be floating. This is all original, complete and in perfect working order. I have never seen this model before and have not had an ATO clock mantle clock in over 5 years.

Fabulous High quality unique French Art Deco clock

Item #1471

This really is a fabulous Art Deco clock, the like of which I've never seen before and I've had literally hundreds of Art Deco clocks through my hands over the years. I would imagine it must have been a special order from a very high end shop to be given as a special Birthday , Anniversary or Wedding gift. It's totally original and very high quality throughout and beautifully made, all metal parts are gilt bronze and are all in perfect condition with no damages or repairs.

The dial is a piece of 1/4" thick glass which has been reverse acid etched with various good luck charm icons which have been filled with gilt , it's incredibly well executed with all the figures being very sharp and well defined. Has a mirrored circle in the centre and a beautiful gilt bronze pierced chapter ring with very stylized deco numerals and gilt baton hands ... All in perfect condition totally free from any damages or repairs.

Movement is a high end French platform escapement 8 day movement which is very rare to find in this size, it's in perfect working order and keeping good time. This is a great clock, don't miss it !!

Classic French Art Deco clock with garnitures 1925

Item #1453

A wonderful French Art Deco clock. I just can't decide which I like more, the clock or the stylized French Deco ladies. They are rendered in a rather coquettish pose, offering flowers and fruit. This is a gem of a piece with matching garnitures. The material is white metal with original enamel patina, stylized 1925 deco floral. If you were visit Paris that year, you would certainly see a clock in this style sitting on a lovely wood shelf at the Bon Marche department store. This is the classic standard brass French pendulum movement (both key wind and chimes), with original porcelain enamel face marked Marseille, the city in which it was made. It is in working condition with original key.
