Very unusual petite French 1930's desk vanity writing table

Item #1767 - Added April 11, 2013

If you were every looking for a highly stylized French Art Deco writing table, I think this may be one of the nicest original pieces I've seen in a long time. The size is wonderful and very useful as a desk, writing table, reception table or small vanity. I love the alternating checkerboard wood edging with these wonderful classic French faceted spindle legs. Some nice features with center drawer and round bakelite knobs as handles. Also, on the each side (left and right), there is a small cut out for storage, books or your favorite bounty.

Art Deco desk

Spectacular Ivoroid Inlaid Original Art Deco Secretary desk 1930's

Item #1754

This is an outstanding piece of furniture which we've been after for many years. Probably French in origin, and a stunning example of Art Deco marquetry using ivory and or ivoroid edging accentuated with a pull down bubble motif on the front. 3 keys supplied with ivory buttons. This piece has all of the quality, consistency and integrity of a very useful Secretary desk desgin. The inside is very stable with double metal hinges and wood supports that also come out when the desk top is lowered (this is a great feature). A nice inlaid leather writings surface and the inside has nice compartments, drawers and cozy cubby holes for storage. Additionally, there are 4 drawers logically placed below the drop down lid (all with locks that work). The base or lower part of the desk is also beautifully executed with a half round almost U shape structure which has inlay on the bottom, complimenting the total design.

The interior is all mirrored with one shelve and the door has a beautiful beveled edge window, outlined in the rich Mahogany. Nice practical and functional door with brass knobs.

Although meant for the bedroom this beautiful vanity would be functional in both a living room, entry way or any wall looking to support a really really beautiful piece of original furniture. Made in France during the 1930's and crafted in the most spectacular tight grained amboyna honey aged burl wood. Has a wonderful mirror that fits right into the top of the vanity and is supported through the lower part of the design. Additionally a wonderful elegant asymmetrical shape give so much dimensions to this special piece. I could see it with a nice footstool or highly stylized art deco "Puff" chair. May I draw your attention to the delicate ivory handles with multiple front drawers. A winner!

This lovely desk has many of the essential French elements you would expect from that empowered period of 1925. Nice parchment top with drawers and beautiful petite legs. Intense Macassar wood and very well organized. Chess for the top, take off the top for an afternoon of fun Backgammon, if that is not enough, reverse the top and you've got a great green felt card table. Of just a great modernist table! Each bank supports the desk which has 3 drawers, quite practical for organizing all your stuff. Locks for each side. Nice faceted skirt surrounds the top with ribbon flame wood throughout. Art Deco Desk

Fabulous Executive Art Deco Desk

Item #1684

We've been waiting for this special Executive Art Deco desk for quite some time. This is a recent restoration, all completed emphasizing the original tradition in which we found it. A wonderful 1/2 round shaped top with strong dark desk skirt to outline this unusual shape and yet there is an inlaid dark writing area. From the front, it appears to be sitting on two elongated round front columns again with nice framed dark wood edging all along the bottom and up to the banks of drawers. Some very nicely designed drawers I might add. The right bank, once opened has 3 sliding drawers, plus a fitted lower drawer as well. The left bank (gosh I feel like I might be in France), also nicely designed swivel drawer (great for a couple of bottles to finalize the perfect days deal)! In any event a great desk, great design and its going to make someone (a lot of money ) very happy!

Item #1648

Great looking game/card table. The top is all inlaid with contrasting woods and there are little cubby holes (4 of them) under each side. The table swivels and becomes a very useful green felt card table (maybe that's what the cubby holes are for). Nice thing about this table, is a very small footprint for such a useful addition to your home. Very stable and all 4 legs have brass tips. Anyone ready to play some games (non computer)?

Art Deco tile table!

Original Art Deco geometric tile table!

Item #1638

I just love this piece. The color and quality of the tile is from that great period of Art Deco (daze gone by). Look at all the colors and and the intricate tile pattern. WOW you don't see these table very often. Sure, lots of mission style tables, by modernist art deco style like this!!!!!!! The top has a great repeat of blues, burgundy, black and a very cool checkerboard treatment on the edge. If that weren't enough there is a 2nd lower table that echoes much of what you see on the top. Spectacular! Wish I had a place for it.

Art Deco Desk, Chair and Matching Cabinet Ruhlmann Art Deco Desk, Chair and Matching Cabinet in

Spectacular Art Deco Desk, Chair and Matching Cabinet in Ruhlmann style!

Item #1620

You've probably only ever seen a piece like this in books on Art Deco. This custom suite was made for our shop, the goal was to re-create this famous Ruhlmann desk using the finest Abedul grained Birch wood (like the French amboyna wood) was chosen and the "ivorite" details were shaped and inlayed by master craftsmen working to create this timeless classic. Additionally, for the first time we created a companion piece that would allow storage, printers or whatever to help design and create a timeless room, uncluttered with all of the office elements typical of most enviornments. A real signature of the Grand Art Deco period. The finish is pure "French" polish with parchment leather inlay as part of the writing surface of the desk. The drawers are all joined in the class French tradition, heavy and meaningful. Even the chair is completed to emulate this design and of course needs to accompany the desk. The chair is upholstered in fine cream leather to match all of the inlays in the desk. It has taken almost one year to complete this and get it ready for the shop, so if this one is for you, it may be the only one for quite some time.

This one will certainly take your breath away!

Ruhlmann's legacy as a designer was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2004. In 2009, he was called the "Art Deco's greatest artist" by the New York Times.

Art Deco Cabinet

Large Art Deco Cabinet, display storage with hand carved front

Item #1618

A beautiful European style Art Deco Cabinet with very nice detailing. The main wood treatment is a spectacular grained sycamore, found in a lot of European art deco furniture. What I love about this piece, first of all is the wonderful carving that runs down the front. The restoration really enhances the look with a rather contrasting point of view circa 1930's. Dark mahogany wood details the top, bottom and carved front. A perfect bookcase and/or display case for decorative objects, yet equally as functional in a bedroom for the storage of sweaters and clothing. Adjustable shelves in all areas and nice size too.

French Art Deco cabinet

Early French Art Deco 20's exquisite demi-lune shaped cabinet marquetry

Item #1587

This a wonderful classic French early 1920's art deco demi-lune style storage cabinet. Please take special note of the wonderful floral marquetry in 4 panels on the front and side doors. The legs are very reminiscent of the designs of Paul Follet, Sue et Mare or my favorite Maurice Dufrene. Very high quality work throughout. It is a piece I bought about 3 years ago and has just completed a beautiful "frame off restoration". The legs are delicate and graceful. This an heirloom quality piece of furniture, I am thrilled with it. It also has two matching interior drawers with additional simple marquetry and storage. The top is all flamed crotch walnut wood with some very subtle marquetry as well. A stunning piece of furniture.

Hollywood Art Deco Desk

Unique Custom Original Hollywood Art Deco inspired Desk

Item #1533

The history of this piece comes from an original smaller styled vanity we bought years ago. Originally found in Argentina, but I think the design is French. In any event, we decided to take some liberties and turn this design into a great looking desk. We increased the over-all size slightly and added a couple of banks of drawers. This is a great looking piece of furniture and quite a serviceable desk or reception piece for the right room.

Hollywood Glamour Vanity

Hollywood Glamour Vanity or Console

Item #1440

I call this a 1930's inspired Art Deco Hollywood Vanity because to me it's just that glamorous. However, it was originally a European designer piece we recreated. It's been constructed of warm Mahogany with an oval raised center platform of flamed Maple and it possesses an overall very unique and curvilinear outline. This is just a magnificent piece of very usable furniture-art that would enhance the beauty of any boudoir. Additionally, this piece could be fairly easily converted to a desk or console. The stool is not included, but available under item #1408 in our inventory.
