Extremely rare bronzed metal Art Nouveau to Arts & Crafts Jugendstil style desk or table lamp

Extremely rare bronzed metal Art Nouveau to Arts & Crafts Jugendstil style desk or table lamp

Item #1474 SOLD

This original and stylized lamp, circa 1910-1920 has all of the details of greatness. Nouveau is not a specialty of mine, but I see the artistry and perfection in this piece for sure. A thoroughly detailed bronze metal base or stand, featuring a tripod of faceted legs, great floral motif detail running upward and a most impressive highly stylized green iridescent glass insert acts as a subtle yet powerful decorative center support. All of this, delicately coming together to hold the two 1/2 circle pieces of frosted glass. The top hand painted glass featuring tree's in a winter landscape. This delicate tree motif is raised and detailed, very much like a French daum piece of this period. I think the photos really speak for themselves, presented here is a stunning piece of art that would look great in many settings, even the early period of Art Deco, since it has such simple clean lines. I have always taken this approach, "buy great design" Also, make note of the highly stylized original art deco on/off switch, haven't seen one like this before

Stunning large size 1920's Modernist Art Deco acid etched glass vase by Daum

Item #1459 SOLD

This is a very heavy thick walled vase and weighs almost 7.5 pounds! A beautiful and unusual pink color with wide acid etched bands around the circumference with three contrasting polished rings around the shoulder. This really is a big vase for this type of glass and measures 10 1/2" high X 8" wide, fully signed around the bottom edge DAUM NANCY FRANCE with the croix de Lorraine.

About Daum Glass

Daum excelled in the production of Art Deco glassware and its designers favored geometric forms as well as thicker and more transparent glass which contrasted with slender shapes and flowing lines of Art Nouveau glassware so popular at the turn of the century.. In the 1920s, the Art Nouveau colors inspired by nature changed to the colors which dominated contemporary abstract paintings, such as topaz, blues and ambers. Designs were increasingly monochromatic and variations of moon white, beige, glacier blue and light yellows were particularly popular. Vases, bowls and lamp shades no longer relied on the glassblowing technique but were cast and decorated with cut and acid-etched stylized patterns, as illustrated by this vase. The new manager Paul Daum was chemist by training and experimented with the use of hydrofluoric acid to vary surface textures of the glass. Towards the middle of the 1920s, friezes, volutes, curved beams or chevron patterns gave rhythm to compositions.
