1930s Art Deco Woman's Head and Hands Ceramic Sculpture

1930s Art Deco Woman's Head and Hands Ceramic Sculpture

1930s Art Deco Woman's Head and Hands Ceramic Sculpture

Item #1123 SOLD

This glamorous ceramic sculpture of a woman's head, neck and hands is strikingly reminiscent of the ceramic sculptures by famed Austrian artist, Friedrich Goldscheider. With this sculpture, it appears the artist has captured the elusive expression of a beautiful woman in love. There is a painstaking level of detail in the face, the elaborate glossy cream-colored curls and the delicate black gloves. The glossy red lips, finely arched white eyebrows and dreamy eyes lined in white contrast dramatically with the perfectly complected matte black face. The head, neck and hands rise from a black and dark teal glazed ceramic cylinder. The sculpture is engraved "Italy" and S.175

8-3/4" Tall X 3-1/2" Diameter (approx)

Item #104  SOLD

A fabulous high quality hard porcelain bisque nude figure from the 1920's Art Deco period, easily on a par with the likes of Sevres or Robj, with regards to both the quality of the materials used and the sculptural dexterity. The base is cast with a relief of foliage with a geometric edge and has a tan
wash , the girl is one of the nicest I've seen , beautiful stylised sharp features , braided hair pulled back and tied , amazing detail right down to her fingernails and toenails. She is covered with a very pale yellow wash then the whole figure including the base has a faint sort of iridescent wash all over . Work of this quality reminds me of Pierre le Faguays or Joe Descomps.
Impressed mark to the base : DEPOSE, signed by the sculptor Hentin. Also has a factory mark , please see pic below.  .Also has the number 2187 inscribed into the underside. Apart from a pinhead fleabite on the very bottom edge at the back of the figure she is in perfect original condition, never been restored.
Dimensions are :16" Long, 5 1/4" Wide, 9 1/2" High.
