The beautifully shaped and nicely engraved French-iron brackets possess an elegant curling-leaf motif while the hefty milky glass shades depict a woven basket full of flowers. The overall effect is elegant, refined and with a strong deco sensibility. They are signed "Degue" About Degue: David Gueron, of Turkish origin and a former fighter of the French Foreign Legion, was the founder of the "Cristalleries De Compiegne". This glassworks mainly produced household glass in the early '20s. In 1926 he founded a new factory, which he called "Verrerie D'Art Degue" and put his full attention on the designing and production of Art Deco luxury art-glass. His factory was located on the "Boulevard Malesherbes" and his showroom was on the "41 rue de Paris". Gueron mainly produced vases, lamps and chandeliers. His glass became very well known due to its detail, heft and rich colors, which he achieved with a special process. Gueron was greatly inspired by other successful French glass artists like Daum, Galle, Muller Freres and Schneider. The Measurements: |

Large 1930s French Glass Sconces • PairItem #1108 This pair of one-of-a-kind sconces (you can tell this is going to be a fun sentence) has attributes too numerous to count. First, there are seven different types of glass used in the shade portion of each fixture. Each particular glass type possesses a unique color and relief and as such, possesses a unique light diffusing personality. The glass's vibrant strong deco colors and corresponding geometric shapes are stunning, both with and without illumination. The detailed (and hefty!) nickel fixture cases were newly custom constructed to house these rare shades. These substantial sconces are really quite striking. In fact, I'd say they're "Hollywood-dramatic" - Especially when used as the only light source in a room. They make a very bold statement when mounted very close together on a wall but are just as beautiful when spaced. Each fixture can hold up to two bulbs. Each Sconce
